CITY OF TORONTO, THE LOCAL MEDIA, AND PRIDE TORONTO HOLD A CALLOUS DISREGARD FOR THIS DOWNTOWN NEIGHBOURHOOD

 THE PRIDE TORONTO NOISE POLLUTER

WHERE THE IGNORED CITY RESIDENTS LIVE AND SUFFER

ON MAY 18, 2022, I SENT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL TO THE MAYOR, MY WARD OFFICE, PRIDE TORONTO, AND THE LOCAL MEDIA

Hello Your Honour the Mayor, Pride Toronto, and Toronto Media

First of all, I am LGBTQ and have been since birth 75 years ago.

I strongly object to the Wellesley stage being allowed to operate until 2 am on Saturday June 25. I notice that many other venues shut down at 11 pm.

Saturday- 1pm-11pm;

This Wellesley Maitland area is a residential area, the residential population is increasing geometrically because of condo developments. The elderly and children live in the buildings neighbouring the Wellesley stage on all sides.

I cannot understand your total disregard for the needs of the residences. The music is deafening and our windows rattle. It is totally inconsiderate to let this outside venue continue past 11 PM. The elderly and children have to stay up until 2 am because of the stressful, loud noise coming from the stage.

I go to Fierté in Montréal every year. All outside venues must shut down at 11 pm out of courtesy to the residents around the venues. I am asking that Toronto show the same humanity toward its residents as does the city of Montréal.

Let the residents of the Wellesley-Maitland get some sleep Saturday night. Shut down the Wellesley Stage at 11 pm on Saturday, June 27.

I have made this request in the past, I hope this time you respect the needs of your citizens, Please do not ignore your residents pleas again.

Regards,

I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE, CLEARLY INDICATING THE CITY DOES NOT CARE. I RECEIVED NO INTEREST FROM THE MEDIA AND NO RESPONSE FROM PRIDE TORONTO.

Hi Brian,

I am following up with your concern from last week. I have confirmed with staff that the Wellesley Stage does have permission to operate until 2am during the noted times you provided, albeit they will require noise monitoring. This means there will be MLS officers present to ensure that the noise from any equipment is kept to no more than 85 decibels.

That does not mean you and your neighbours won't hear anything, but 85 decibels is about the equivalent of a food blender or noisy restaurant from what I can gather.

Apologies as I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but I am hopeful the news that there will be noise monitoring will ensure that any noise will not exceed an unreasonable level.

Stay safe,

-           Eddie

I SENT THIS FINAL PLEA TO THEM AGAIN

You Honour the Mayor, Mr. LaRusic, members of Toronto Media and Toronto Pride,

First of all, thanks, Mr. Larusic for giving the disappointing information that the city, Pride Toronto, and apparently our local media have such little regard for neighbourhoods, especially the elderly, children, and those suffering from Covid-19 who live there.

Yes, we live downtown, but we are just as much a neighbourhood as Rosedale, Forest Hill, Moore Park, and Bridal Path. However, I suspect pleas from anyone in these neighbourhoods would get the kind of response that shows the city's esteem for these residents. We are disregarded as inner-city dwellers and obviously not considered important enough to show us even minimal respect for our well-being.

I request again that the Wellesley Stage be forced to shut down at 11 pm on Saturday, June 25, just as the majority of venues are being forced to close at that earlier time.

As to the volume being kept at 85 decibels, you should be informed that noise pollution coming from the Wellesly Stage in the past has made our windows rattle.

In the name of all that is reasonable and considerate, please shut it down at 11 pm.

Regards,

UNFORTUNATELY, THE NEIGHBOURHOOD LACKS THE WEALTH AND INFLUENCE TO GET HELP FROM THE CITY. IGNORING THE POWERLESS IS A SAD BUT TRUE STATE OF AFFAIRS, NOT ONLY IN TORONTO, BUT THROUGHOUT CANADA.
