HAS THE UK LEARNED THAT LOCKDOWNS AND RESTRICTIONS CONTINUE TO BE INEFFECTIVE AND DAMAGING?

The United Kingdom is considered one of the hotspots for the Omicron variant of Covid-19.  

"An average of 186,121 cases per day were reported in the United Kingdom in the last week (January 4, 2022)"

 So how is the UK reacting to this increase in Omicron, which WHO indicates is significant less of a problem than previous Covid-19 variants:

"More evidence is emerging that the Omicron coronavirus variant is affecting the upper respiratory tract, causing milder symptoms than previous variants ... However, while case numbers have surged to all-time records, the hospitalization and death rates are often lower than at other phases in the pandemic."

Here is a quote from a resident friend in the UK:

"Sorry to hear that you have so many restrictions in Canada. Here is UK, we are going through a strange phase: around 80% have been vaccinated and over 50% have has a booster. Numbers are rising, but it seems the main problem now is the level of absence of people from their place of work. The Theatres and Cinemas are open, and although we are asked to wear masks in public indoor places, it feels as if we are now just going through a period of flu symptoms.... Hopefully, this might be the beginning of the end...(of the epidemic, not the world!)"
