Imposing Covid 19 Restrictions -- Slippery Slide to Totalitarianism

 

 

Citizens who are protesting the horrendous effects of Covid 19 restrictions are being arrested, fined and their property is being seized. The charges include non-compliance, obstruction of police, illegal private and social gatherings. Enforcement teams are being bolstered to increase vigilance against citizens during the upcoming Holiday seasons.

When democracies begin to trample on democratic and human rights, regardless of the reasoning, they are on a slippery slope to despotism. In the last 100+ years, we have seen a number of nations fall from democracy to dictatorship and totalitarianism.

We should advocate for the rights of people to protest. There are many who are protesting the harsh Covid 19  restrictions because of the damage these lock downs, social distancing, social isolation is doing to our social, psychological, economic, and physical health. Whether you agree or not with these citizens, you should tell governments that dissenters should not be treated like criminals, but as individuals and groups trying to prevent their civil liberties from being taken away.
