LGBTQ are bashed and killed, just because they are LGBTQ. Trans and gay men fear harsh penalties or even execution and murder regularly in Muslim countries, Caribbean countries, Russia, and other some other nations, and face overt or covert discrimination in most countries of the world. Gays are still at risk in other parts of the world especially in part of the Western Countries, dominated by fundamentalist religions including fundamentalist Islam, Christians as well as politicians of the same ilk who see the LGBTQ community as an "abomination" to God.

No one knows for certain how many gays died in Hitlers concentration camps either, but they were put on trains and shipped to the camps along with other "inferior groups." In the not too distant past and even in the present, many gay murders were/are not recorded "gay murders" because gays did not self-identify and their deaths were regarded as muggings, not hate crimes.

There still is a real fear of retribution at work, from friends, from family, from the government, from bigots, and always a fear of physical attack. Why do you think the vast majority of gay men try to appear straight.
